Meet Miss J, she is the epitome of the average american woman! She has a step child and one that she gave birth to, she’s been divorced and re-married, she lives in a small townand is the same size as the average american woman. The reason I am writing about these details is because even though more women in the U.S. are her size, she is the least likely to come into my studio to be photographed. According to www.cleavland.com they found some research regarding women’ shopping habits,
“But a funny thing happens on the way to the shopping mall. It seems that women who used to be a size 8 or 10 and have gained weight often simply don’t want to shop for a size 14 or 16. Consequently, they make do with what they have. Women sizes 20 and up, many of whom perhaps have been plus-size their entire lives, seem to be more likely to have accepted themselves”
I have found this to also be true with boudior photography, women who are sized 12-16 rarely come into my studio!!! I myself am a size 14 and I used to be smaller, so I keep saying when I get smaller I’ll do “X”, or when I lose weight I’ll do “X”. I was so thrilled when Miss J gave me permission to share her story and her photos so inspire any of you size 12-14 girls out there who are thinking about doing a boudoir session, YOU ARE SEXY, and you do DESERVE to do a shoot!!!
What Miss J said about her shoot:
“Before the shoot I was a little nervous on what to wear. I’m not a lingerie type gal, but quickly realized that my husband isn’t expecting me to be. I loved that each photo was taken to accentuate the things my husband loves about my body. It was very comfortable, because for the most part, it felt pretty natural! I think that after reviewing the photos, I was better able to see myself as he does. It took away some of the critiquing we all do to ourselves. I think this was the best part about my experience; Seeing something in myself that others do. “
